Conflicted. That sums up how I feel about this book. When I read the blurb with the infamous... "Her life was everything she wanted it to be; until one fateful night changed everything – leaving her broken and without direction. Nearly a year later, she still has little faith in anyone or anything.", I rolled my eyes thinking it was going to be more of the same I've been reading lately, a recycled plot. I was happy to see it wasn't the case with this book at all. The plot was pretty original, although for someone so closed off like Mia, the insta-lust was weird. In the beginning, the characters were hard to get into, but the plot was intriguing, so it wasn't a huge turn off. I liked how the story was developed in terms of plot, which I think is definitely the driving force behind this book. My main issue with this book was that I was so swept in the plot and the story, it was frustrating that the characters were so out of reach, especially Ethan. For all the countless sex scenes ( they're basically going at it like rabbits the entire time ) and endless descriptions of his hotness, the author doesn't give us a single thing on Ethan , except for some general peeks at times. The rest of the characters were given more insight to, yet there was still a lot communication done by staring between all the characters, apparently, which got annoying.
All that being said, the story was really good and unique. There are tons of twists and surprises that make this book hard to put down.
It does end in a cliffhanger and I do look forward to reading the next one.

“What the hell are you doing here? Are you stalking me now?” I snapped.I attempted to remove his hand, but the effort behind it was marginal. Everything within me relished his hands all over me. My knees became weak with the heavy want coursing between my legs. My upper body constricted with my wayward needs. Ethan tightened his grip as he whirled me around so that my back was on his front. The music shifted to a slow, deliberate song that was fitting for my predicament. I cursed Usher underneath my breath for coming out with this song. Ethan had buried me into his body. It was impossible not to notice his hardness. He ran his hands down the front of my thighs until he hit bare skin.“It's hard to stalk someone when they're in the club that you own,” he shot back.“You own this place?” I stammered.“I have a vested interest, so I come in on occasion. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered you were here,” he remarked. My concentration was dwindling with every stroke he made upon my body. Ethan continued running his hands up and down my thighs, causing my heart to beat out of my chest. I bit my lip to keep from moaning from the pleasure when his fingers lingered towards the inside. My hands took on a mind of their own as they slid down his waist and thighs. His breaths trickled across my neck. It heightened the erotic dance south of me. I was in the danger zone with him. I fought to find my rational side to avoid undressing for him right then and there. My mind grasped at the few functioning brain cells to keep him talking. It was my last line of defense to keep him from kissing me.“Why are you so upset?”“I'm angry because you keep denying me when it's clear you want me. To top it off, you come to my club and dance with countless men right in front of me,” Ethan growled. He ran his nose down my neck before licking away a bead of sweat. I gasped. The hand that he had moved to my waist slipped underneath my top. He caressed my belly before running his fingers further down, making every ounce of me come to a dull ache. Against my will, my body moved in ways to encourage him to travel further south to take full advantage of me. Ethan's hands settled along my waistline, lazily trailing his fingers along it. My mind screamed one last time that this was not an option for me. In a lastditch attempt, I paused his hands so he wouldn't go any further. Ethan whipped me around to face him. The passion in his eyes was unmistakable.“I'm trying to do the right thing,” I moaned. His hands drifted underneath my shirt and up my sides on their way north this time. As he progressed along my rib cage to the lower line of my bra, he moved us off the dance floor. Ethan pushed me up against a pillar at the far end of it. He brought his body right into mine. He tossed in an occasional thrust of the hips as he pinned me, just to remind me how very well he knew my body. Ethan cupped my breast with tender strokes of his hand before pressing his lips on a spot underneath my ear lobe. It was enough to melt every part of me. I was throbbing all over for him.“You want me. I want you. I don't care what's right or wrong,” Ethan hissed.I tilted my neck as he trailed deep kisses down my collarbone and exposed shoulder. I wanted him so much that it was close to making me burst. I moaned even louder when his teeth grazed the crook of my shoulder. He sucked along my neck with eagerness, making no effort to hold back his want for me. I slanted my head to bring my lips vigorously down on his. My tongue drifted across the top of his mouth before his tongue met mine where they danced to the beat with the music around us. My hands moved down to his hips as he pumped against me. I slid them even further down to his ass. Ethan responded by grinding harder and grabbing one of my legs to raise it around his hip.Our bodies melded together in an erotic dance as our mouths devoured each other. I lost myself in the music, in his lips, in his body, in his hands, and in the desires he brought out in me. His hands ran up and down my body while his lips and hips brought me to the point of no return.

Review: Mr. Black & Scarlett Red by P.T. Michelle ( 3.5 stars and 4.5 star reviews )

Title: Mister Black
Series: In the Shadows #1
Author: P.T. Michelle
 Release Date: June 14, 2014

Synopsis

We all have someone who crossed our path and fundamentally changed us. That one person who blew through our lives, their presence forever stamped on our psyche. They linger in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in the decisions we make. A soul crusher or a dream maker, depending on the perspective.

My person is MISTER BLACK.

I didn’t know him by that name when I first met him.

I didn’t know him at all, but the impression he left behind was just as powerful as the name I call him today.

He is Black: a deadly enforcer and masterful seducer.

I am Red: a justice bleeder and willing participant.

Together we are passion. Colors colliding through each other’s lives.

When our secrets converge in a passionate encounter,
stepping out of the shadows just might be worth the risk.

" We all have someone who crossed our path and fundamentally changed us. That one person who blew through our lives, their presence forever stamped on our psyche. They linger in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in the decisions we make. A soul crusher or a dream maker, depending on the perspective.
My person is Mr. Black "  ~ Talia

This is how Mr. Black starts, with this quote from the main character, Talia. It resonated with me because it is true, we all have someone, it doesn't have to be a sexual thing. Maybe they even didn't really DO anything except "blow over" your life. But they're always there in some way, they sneak up on us.

First thing that caught my attention from this book, is the precise details it has. It sets the reader up in Talia's and Sebastian's very different but equally stormy worlds. Both characters haunted by deception and brutal death, they find their rainbows at a very young age. It spans two monumental moments in their lives. The first time they met and the second they "first met", as well as what led up to both being there at those moments in time.
There were some things that were left unraveled, some details that didn't fit and some that struck me as odd. As I finished the book, and even more so after I read Scarlett Red, I realized everything in this book has a purpose. EVERYTHING. It's like a little mystery and clues  wrapped in one hell of an erotic night between Talia and Sebastian.
I'm a sucker for truly smart, quick and classy heroines as well a strong and compelling male lead. This story has both. Talia is a career-minded, extremely smart and observant girl who didn't let her past define her life. Except maybe in the sex area. Sebastian ( Mr. Black ) is alpha, a SEAL, soft spoken, dominant, bossy and well.... a panty melter.
Mr. Black gave me the impression of being a starter in a series that would lead me to a series of recycled plots and over worked scenes. Man, was I wrong. I still think this has the feel of long prologue or a prequel, if you will. The reason I gave it 3.5 stars is because it left too many question, like I said , it felt like a long prologue so I had no choice but to pick up Scarlett Red the second I put Mr. Black down.
Overall, a great read.

Mister Black swept in and out of my life like a tornado, leaving me twisted up and forever changed in his wake.

And now that my life is finally back on track, I need to move on, despite the many reminders of our time together.

But our pasts are only as far away as the shadows we hide behind, and sometimes those shadows grow darker, converging on the present in the most insidious way.

He is Black: a stealthy hunter and rainbow master.

I am Red: a truth seeker and desire keeper.

Together we are obsession. Passionate colors destined to be drawn together.

4.5 stars

" He is Black: a stealthy hunter and rainbow master.
I am Red: a truth seeker and desire keeper"

Scarlett Red is a stunner of a book. I got weaved in an increasingly complicated plot with completely out of the blue twists and turns. When I said that the previous book, Mr. Black was sort of a prequel to this , I had no idea it contained so much needed to understand this one. To say it is filled with clues and hints is an understatement.
Scarlett Red picks up three years after that incredible and fateful night between Talia and Black. They meet up in the most random way. There's one catch. Talia doesn't know it's Black. She has pined for him since she was 13 years old and she knows he is it for her. There are little moments where she is thinking of him that just made my heart weep. ( Having solo fun while wearing Black's leather jacket , which he gave her when they first met, for the last time as a way to say goodbye counts as emotional, right? )
So, as the book progresses and Talia and Bash .... bond, the plot thickens and more details and clues are left out for us. Some are not who they seem to be, past events were twisted, ice and lace are used in creative ways, a gripping mystery so seemingly simple I couldn't help but look for clues everywhere. NOTHING is as it seems.
Bash and Talia are on fire when together, the chemistry between these two sizzles and burns in the most delicious ways. The sex scenes are flawlessly and tastefully written: tons of passion, mystery, bossiness from Black, beautifully descriptive and some bondage-ish and spanking action.

3.5 stars
This is my first Cardeno book and I'm sure it won't be the last. I liked how the shifter part of the story was presented, very nicely done without seeming overworked. The story flowed nicely, although I may have skimmed over a few parts. There were some issues with this book for me, like Simon and his past. It is mentioned quite a bit but it never goes into detail and as much as it is mentioned, it also doesn't seem to affect him that much. It's kind of confusing in that sense.
It's not as much erotic as it romantic, which is kind of surprising for a M/M book. The connection they shared is sweet and sexy, although the actual sexual scenes are more towards the end. Simon's resistance and Mitch's fierce determination made this a great story read in one sitting.
A great beginner M/M paranormal book.

excerpt
As he kicked the last of the dirt over his mother’s grave, bone deep exhaustion nearly brought Simon Moorehead to his knees, but at least he’d delivered his mother home to rest. She had left Blue Mountain for him, and he had returned for her. There was a certain harmony in that, albeit an ironic one. But harmony or not, he had to leave the territory before another welcoming committee was dispatched to greet him. He darted his gaze around the surrounding landscape, looking for a flat rock to pound down the loose earth. Once he found an appropriate stone, he shifted into his human form, lifted it with both hands, and returned to the grave where he used the last of his energy to repeatedly raise and then slam down the rock, packing the soil. “Stop.” Shocked by the deep, rumbling voice, Simon lost his balance and toppled onto his backside. “Who’s there?” He held the stone in front of him like a weapon as he jerked his head from side to side and squinted, trying to see beyond the surrounding trees by the light of the moon. “Relax, little one.” He had his answer—it was a pack member who mistook his size for weakness. Well, Simon would prove him wrong just as he had the others. He’d been banished at age twelve and spent the next thirteen years learning how to take care of himself. Shifters underestimated him because they were led by scent and sight and refused to look beneath the surface. They didn’t expect an Omega to fight or disobey. But Simon had learned to act as strong as any Alpha. And if rejecting his true nature meant his soul suffered and withered, ultimately leading him to the same demise as his mother, so be it. “Show yourself,” he demanded as he stood. The direction of the wind changed, and Simon caught scent of the other shifter before he saw him. Alpha. The urge to bare his neck and roll over hit him deep in the gut. Forcing himself to ignore it, he mentally recited his mantra: Never show weakness. Stay in charge of every situation. Don’t back down. He wouldn’t be a slave to reactions he couldn’t control. He was better than that, stronger than that. Then the biggest man he had ever seen stepped into the clearing. Broad was an understatement in describing his shoulders. He was almost twice as wide as Simon and well over half a foot taller. “Drop the rock,” he said, piercing Simon with black eyes. Grateful for the reminder that he could use the tool as a weapon, Simon ignored the wetness dripping along his forearm, raised the rock above his head, and said, “Back away.” A growl was Simon’s only warning before the Alpha grabbed his wrist and forced him to release his hold on the stone. “Let me go!” Simon tried to yank his arm away from the powerful grip but strained his shoulder instead. He’d never come across anyone so large and powerful. The timing was terrible because Simon was already running on fumes, worn down soul-deep, but he gathered whatever energy he had left and tried to fight. “You’ve injured yourself.” The Alpha clasped Simon’s hip with his free hand, further impeding his movement. “Stop.” Grunting in denial, Simon struggled to get free. His backpack was a thirty minute hike away at the campsite. If he could shift and get there, he’d have his supplies and enough cash to get out of the Blue Mountain territory. “Let me go, and I’ll leave,” he said. Then, his gut rebelling at the possibility the Alpha would consider that a concession on his part, he added, “Like I told the men you sent, I have no intention of staying here.” He wriggled. “Let me go.” “I sent nobody.” The Alpha’s voice was deep and rough, like his face. “Be still.” With a grip just shy of painful, he raised Simon’s hand, leaned forward, and nostrils flaring, he inhaled deeply. “Males can be Omegas,” Simon resentfully answered the inevitable question. “It doesn’t make us weak.” “Not weak.” Bottomless black eyes peered at him as the Alpha shocked him to his core by parting his lips and licking his palm. “Mine.” Involuntarily, Simon trembled. The Alpha wanted blood—more blood than he was getting by lapping at Simon’s wounded hand, which meant he was feral, his animal half overrunning his human half and driving him to kill. When the giant leaned forward, going for his jugular, Simon delivered a well-placed kick to the groin and then went limp, making himself dead weight. The strategy worked—the Alpha lost his grip and Simon toppled to the ground. Before his attacker could react, he scurried out of reach, shifted into his wolf, and ran. Simon wasn’t a big wolf, but he was fast and he had a lifetime of experience evading other shifters. He ignored the instinct pulling at him to roll over and show his belly and wove around the trees at a breakneck pace, planning to do exactly what he’d done thirteen years earlier: take his meager belongings and escape from the Blue Mountain Alpha. But then a roar shook the very air around him, a big body knocked him to the ground, and teeth dug into his nape. Without breaking his skin, the Alpha shook him like a lamb and growled. Human words weren’t needed for the message to come through loud and clear: submit. It wouldn’t happen. If Simon was going down, he’d do it fighting and inflicting as much damage as possible along the way. He kicked and bit, clawed and smacked, never getting free but occasionally hearing pained yips and eventually smelling copper. As the scent of the Alpha’s blood permeated his entire being, Simon twisted in knots, waging an internal war between the cell-deep instinct to bare his throat to the wolf above him and the well-honed habit to fight and get free. When the world began darkening, he was less sad about the loss of his life than he was thankful for the reprieve from the battles—both external and internal. At least he’d be laid to rest with his mother.
